Martha Matilda Dahlgren
Martha M. Dahlgren was born around 1818 in Pennsylvania. By 1860, she was living in her brother John’s household in Washington, D.C. She married Matthew P. Read on November 6, 1867. Her husband died in Nice, France, on April 16, 1879. By 1900, she was living with her nephew in Washington, D.C., and she employed at least three domestic servants. The 1900 census described her as a “Capitalist.” She died in Washington on September 25, 1904.
