Camp Sickles Va
May 11th /63.
Dear Mother—
I might have written since the recent engagement but as I came out all right with the exception of a slight touch on the left arm which however is getting better—in fact it did not cause me to leave duty though it makes myarm feel just like as if it was asleep—Ideferred writing until we would be paid off, which came to pass to-day. Our Sutler (Mr Dean) is going home and I gladly embrace the chance to send you Seventy Dollars ($70.00) Curtis Wingar also encloses the sum ofThirty Two Dollars ($32.00) which you will please give to his Father & oblige me much This will be left at A. J. McKean's / Store Mercer Pa where you will get it in due time I hope.
As soon as you get it write to me & let me know of it.
Your Son
J. D. Baker.
P.S. We got our pay but an hour ago. I got $104.00 but a soldier needs a little change so I pay my debts of 12.00 andsend you $70.00 & keep the rest for pocket change
J. D. Baker
in a hurry
