Madam,
In response to the personal reference of Hon. I. H. Miller, you are informed that your above designated claim for pension awaits the evidence indicated, in the attached circular. Further evidence is required showing the exact income derived from the farm belonging to you, during each year from 1864 when the soldier died, until 1870, during which period you hired help to work said farm, and whether any debts were thus incurred by you. The evidence of Houston and Patterson on file touching this point, is not specific and / does not meet the requirements of this office. The exact rental value of said farm since you first began renting it in 1870, should be shown. The evidence of Thomas Barnes upon this point is not sufficient as he states simply that said farm was rented, in consideration of your board and clothes.
A general description of your farm of 80 acres, its fertility and productions should be shown in the proof. You were called upon for this evidence Dec 7 '83.
Early compliance with the requirements of / this letter will promote the early adjudication of your claim.
Very respectfully
M. Dudley
