Horace G. Babcock to Charlotte L. Lasher, 24 April 186X
Bristoe Station. Va. Apr 24
Friend Lottie
I will improve the present moment in writing a few lines to you I am well also the rest of the Boys perhaps you would like to know how I enjoyed my visit home I will tell you. I enjoyed it very well but not as well as I expected for various reasons one was it was so sickly there I did not see near all of the folks I should like to have seen. the small pox was raging pretty hard while I was there. besides there was so many strangers living there (at least they were strangers to me) that it did not seem as it used to yet I enjoyed my visit with my folks very well indeed I should liked very well to have made a longer stay in Norwich and seen more of the folks. yet I suppose I saw / all that cared about seeing me and possibly more. however the next time I come I will stay longer. I hope the next time I come home I will not have to return to the Army again for I can tell you Lottie it was hard for me to leave my friends and bid them good bye the second time, and go back to the Army, and do you blame me Lottie Well I have got back to the Company safe and sound it seems quite natural to get back with the Boys. I saw Charley Rice at Baltimore he was well. I intended to write to Cass this morning but have not time as the mail goes out soon. I will write to Perrys folks soon
My love to all and oblige your Friend
