Cousin George
I recived your letter of the 15th of April in due time & was very glad in deed to here from you & know that you was yet in the land of the living, but I fear that by this time you will think we have forgotton you intirely but it is not so at all, thare is hardly a day goes past but my husband says Sarah we must answer that letter of Brownings for I want to hear from him again but the days come & go & the writing is not done In the first place I hed a sort of felon(sic) on my fore finger of/the right hand that detered me from writing for some weeks & my Husband said he would answer it & did write it twice & finely waited for me to get well so as to write some, & I have writen taken up more paper in my apology than I intended I hope you will excepted it & answer as soon as conveniyent after receiving this
I have not heard from your wife in a long time & have intended writing her ever scince my finger got so I could use it but have seen no time tall now I shall write in the course of the week I have hoped she would make up her mind to come home this spring & come right to Owego & then up here we should be so glad to see her before she went to Leroy I hope her health is no worse the reson of her not writing/
We have had some beutifull days this spring but every rainy day thare is we think of the poor Soldiers & Pitty them—If you could have been here to have seen the Pity & sympathy witch the perrusal of your letter elicited among the frends here you have would have been repaid some what for the pain & fating fetiage you endured on that memorrable day as far as simpathy can repay you induring so much—Our whole hearts are with you & the cause you are fighting for we feel so greatfull so thankfull to those that hav gone forth from Dear freinds & pleasant homes to fight for us & our children pen cannot discribe one half the emotion I felt & I should be proud to say I had a son husband or Brother in the Army fighting for his Country, but Oh, this war is awfull & I hope & pray every day that it may soon close that no more homes may be made/desolate but I am afraid thare is a great many more poor Soldiers that will be made to bite the Dust befor we shall have peace
I do hope you will be one that will be spared & that you will t come home this Fall if not before for your wifes sake for I know she must miss you so much & especially if she is feeble how can she get along with out you
