My Own Darling Wife
I can only write you a few lines and get them in this mail and those I shall have to write in haste with my pencil. I received yours of the 1st inst. yesterday. It was worth evry thing to me darling. I felt so terribly homesick. Evry particle of pleasure or satisfaction I shall have while here will be in reading your letters. Send them often my dear. I have not been very well for a few days past and if I do not feel better soon I shall go to the hospital at Vicksburg where I can have good care and what I need / most of all good cistern water to drink. When I get the necessary papers from Washington and get my resignation properly started I shall try and get a leave of absence if my health gets any worse. The papers for the investigation of my case have not come round yet. I am expecting them evry day. It will take some time to fix up every thing all straight but I think evry thing will be right in proper time. Keep good courage my darling. Enjoy the society of your friends. Think of me my dear but do not fret or cause yourself too much anxiety on my account. Trust me entirely in the hands of Him who can and will take care of me if our faith is sufficient.—In His hands I leave you my darling girl until I am permitted to see your dear face again.
Remember me in love to all.

Ever most Affect Your Husband
George
