George Haw to Annie M. Henry, 21 February 1864
Sunday Morning
Febry. 21st 1864
My Darling Wife:—
I think we shall have an opportunity to send some mail to the city in the morning so I will finish my letter. It is a beautiful morning and was it possible for me to be happy so far away from my loved wife I certainly ought to be today. The good Lord blesses me with much better health than I expected to enjoy, for which I am truly thankful, but for me to attempt to be happy when I know that my dear Annie is miserable would be mocking I can not do it / darling. I look for no happiness and desire none until I am permitted to see your loved face once more. May God grant that not many more Sabbaths may pass until I shall enjoy this blest privilege.—What shall I say today my darling to encourage you and make the long dreary weeks pass a little more pleasantly? I do not suppose that any thing short of telling you something positive in regard to my coming home will do much toward it and of course I can say nothing today but what I have allready said. I do hope that our Division will soon come back again so that I can at least try to do something to push the matter through. / One thing is very certain. I shall not give them much rest until my discharge is granted. I guess they will be glad to get rid of me after a little. I received the paper Angie sent about the first of the month by the last mail. I do hope I shall hear from you tomorrow if we succeed in getting a mail. It is now nearly two weeks since your last was recd. It is so terrible lonesome dear when I do not hear from you often that I scarcely know what to do with myself sometimes. Do write often my darling. Give my kind regards to all and ever remember
Your Faithful & loving Husband
George
