George Haw to Annie M. Henry, 31 March 1864
Cairo Ill. March 31st 1864
Dearest Annie:—
It is now 2 o'clock and as I have heard nothing from you I shall start down the river this afternoon if the boat from St. Louis comes down and one is expected any hour. If any thing should happen that I do not go today I will write you again tomorrow. I will try and mail you a letter at Memphis if we stop long enough for me to go to the office.
I feel satisfied that it is no use me waiting here at that and it is best for me to get to Vicksburg as soon as possible. Write to me immediately. Keep good courage my darling and be very careful of your health.
Ever Your Affectionate Husband
George
