My Darling Wife.
                        We are on the river somewhere between Cairo and Memphis. We expect to reach Cairo sometime tonight. I have written a few lines to you and directed the letter to Dubuque but thinking that you might be in Burlington and being very anxious to hear from you I send these few lines to Burlington. I have not heard from you since I left Dubuque. write me immediately dear upon receipt of this. Direct to Co. "B" 33rd Regt. Wis. Vol. Cairo Ill, via R.R.
 
I ought to hear something of my papers when I get to Cairo. I will write you again in / a day or two. My health has been better since I last wrote you. With love to Mother and Ben's family
