Albert R. Elmore to Harriet C. Elmore, 11 October 186X
Camp Conner, Oct 11th
Your letter my Dear Mother reached me day before yesterday, but this is the first opportunity I have had to reply to it. I did not send the letter you enclosed to Col Hampton, because he has already made arrangements in regard to our discharges, and they have been sent to Richmond, to be signed by the Sect. of the War, and as soon as they come back we will get them. still it is very probable that we will not get them before about the 1st of November, but perhaps we may get them sooner, at any rate you need not expect me for some time yet. You seemed by your letter to think that I was in a great deal of danger the other day during our little cannonade, but although on the battery nearly all the time I was in no more danger than you are at home. I hope you have sent my box by now. Rosa said she would not send it, because / she heard that we had moved our camp, but it makes no difference how much we move camp, if the things are directed to Manassas they will come straight and we will eventually get them. they sometimes stay two or three weeks at Manassas before they (Officers) send for them. We are getting on tolerably well, our fare is pretty slim, except when we manage to press some of the neighbors hogs into the service, by running them through, with our swords, when they come feeding around our horses, or steal some turkeys. one of my mess got four a few nights ago. I wrote to Frank from Fairfax a few days ago, and will have to tell you as I told him that I write home so often, that I can now scarcely find any thing to say. Cousin Tom, Willie, John Rhett, and all in general are well and hearty. Give my love to all, and tell Becky and Rosa I will answer their letters soon.
Your affectionate
Son Albert.
