Albert R. Elmore to Sister, 31 October 186X
Camp Butler
Oct 31st

I have only a few moments to spare my Dear Sister, before I go on guard, and therefore can only write a few lines. I wrote to Frank, a few days ago, and enclosed it in a letter to Mother. I wrote to him for some blankets. tell Mother to line one side of them with some kind of colored cloth, so that it will answer the purpose of sheets. tell Frank to send me a good pocket knife, and a few boxes of sardines. send the blankets as soon as possible, as it is pretty cold up here. I have just returned from Centreville. I saw a great / many of my friends in Kershaws regiment. You can have no idea of the fortifications and breast-works up there. I think if the Yankees ever get past there, there will not be enough of them to whip the Legion by itself. I have not received a letter from home in about three weeks, and am getting quite tired of waiting for one, and I don't intend writing any more untill I get a letter. I have written nine or ten letters since I have received one. I suppose you are all delighted that our discharges were refused and we will not be at home untill next june. I am sure the prospect of a winter in this cold country is any thing but agreeable.

I am delighted with my coat, it is elegant, the very thing I wanted, only it is to fine for hard service. Charles and Jesse have both arrived safely. thank Aunt Sallie for the quinces she sent me, they were delicious I wish you would send with my blankets, some writing paper and envelopes, and some Confederate stamps. I heard to day, that Miss Janie Bedon was married is it so? Tell Sister Mary that I saw her brother Willie to day he was well, in fine spirits and looked as well as I ever saw him. Cousin Tom, John Rhett, Willie, and all the rest of our crowd are well. tell Rosa I will write to her soon.
Give my love to all.

Your affect. Brother
