December the 24th 1862
 
            Dear Cul it is with a great deal of pleasure I seat myself to answer your very kind letter Cull you dont know how much good it does do me to get a letter from you and you are all the one that does write to me at all I think some of the rest might write to me I think if it was them as it I think i would write to them if they was out here one month I bet they would write they dont know how glad a man is to hear from his wife and children I know I would rather read a letter as to eat the hungry time ever i have seen yet well Cul I dont expect to see much fun tomorrow that is Christmas i would like to be at home mighty well but i dont know when that will be 
 
Cul we have been looking for your father up for about two weeks and he has never landed yet I think he will be here some of these days and then I think i will get a long letter from you and that is all i study about if i could get a letter from you every week i could be better satisfied but I never have got but one yet yes i have I got a piece out of Robs letter Cul we have been living mighty well now for a while well Cul this is Christmast morning they did great this morning they had a big time of it last night they carried all the oficers out to the creek and they all had to treat to something Cris M[?] treated to about three bushel of aples and Lieut Anderson had to say he would not drill us for four days and Moore I dont know what he had to do he had to treat or promise something / they are having all this fun without any whiskey or without much there was some not much Cul i would a heep rather be at home this morning to take my Christmast but i cant be that so i will have to take mine here i recon we will get to rest four days i do know we have the promise of it there is some Regiments getting a week Cul it would like to be at home with with you and the children and visit about with you but I cant I do not know any thing about what we will do some say we will go on towards Nashville and some say we will go south i dont any thing about it Cul I have wrote to you so much I do not believe i can finish this page and another as well I send this with old Blankenship I have sent six letters to you and all by hand but one i mailed one in Merfersboro and the rest i sent by hand and you said you had not got but one but if you get this you will / know that I have been writing to you every chance this will be seven letters I have written to you Cul I will have quit edd is about ready to start and I want you to write to me and let me know what letter you did get write write
