My Dear Friend
We left Bridgeport Ala on the 3rd of May and joined the main army near Ringgold previous to the general forward movement
Our Division was engaged at Rocky Face Mountain on the 8th inst and lost about 300 in an attack on the enemy at dug road gap for the purpose of diverting the attention from the flank movement then being made by McPherson. We were again engaged on the 15th at Resaca and forced in Johnsons left right he retreated on the following day
during the night of the 15th our Regt went out to a / Rebel work which contained 4 guns. dug through the work and brought out the pieces from under the nose of their owners who were lying in their trenches covering the fort.
I think Hooker did the hardest fighting at Resaca all is going well the rebs give way as we advance Johnson is making a stand at Iron Mountain about 11 miles in our front
I think we will flank him and drive him back on Atlanta my health is good
My respects to all
Yours James Clarke
