Letter from Unkle James Palmer
To Father Dated Gorham Ontario Co N.Y.
            Jan 25 1824
 
In wh He says Dear Brother
I receiv'd your letter &c bring'g t news of t death of our brother. He lies in t grave as you informd me by t side of our departed Mother, there to remain until t great day & it will be but a short time before you & I must be consign'd to that same house appointed for all flesh. May we be prepared to meet our Dear departed on t great day Horatio wrote me July 19 1822 say'g I v been sick some yrs & still continue sickly Observes he had a wish to come & see me but his health wld not permit Our convers'g with each other was at an end After paying his debts if their was any th'g remain'g to me use it in erecting a monument & wh was deficient I will pay my propor. when I come to Conn. for that is all we can do for our br in ts world You mention t death of our br by marriage Capt. Hezekiah Bessel Sister is born to trouble has enough of property to support her thro life 
 
& that Our Aunt Abegail of Mansfield is gone home. I trust in peace. Worthy woman for her I mourn My nurse in my youth May we as she did desire to do good & love our enemies
 
You mention that Father & Mother r able to take care of themselves. Father is an old man & has seen a great deal of trouble but t death of Horatio is a heavy stroke—his be'g t youngest & loos'g his mother at a very early age his affections were very much placed on him But I hope he will be supported under all his trials & at last receivd where t weary r at rest
 
My br you speak of ur own good health & that of ur family that u v 6 child'n & u work at ur trade get a comfortable living gone much of t time from home
 
Our sist Olive poor girl fortune seems to be hard on her but may her troubles be a means of secur'g her peace in another world My only br my health has been good since I saw you have 5 children 2 sons & 3 daughters one since we left Mansfield namd Mary now 6 yrs old He then speaks of by'g a lot of land 100 acres 3 dols per acre pay in produce
