Dear Friends
As you perceive we are again on the move and expect soon to be in action for the enemy are quite plenty within a few miles of us. we shall remain here a few weeks when we will be reinforced and proceed to Newbern Station and then to Richmond. The country here is far superior to any through / which we have traveled and extensive plantations are taking the places of mountains and rocky bluffs. We are within 40 miles of the White Sulphur Springs which are directly on our road to Newbern. I have not received any word from home for some time and shall begin to think you negligent if I do not receive a letter in course of a few months. My health is very good and I think I will stand the coming campaign very well. Eight of our cavelry were attacted by 80 bushwhackers a few days ago and three of our men were killed and one taken prisoner and to day two companies / of our Regiment are after them.
I have not heard from Bainbridge for some time but expect a letter soon.
But I must
Close hoping to hear from you soon Give my love to all enquiring friends and except the best wishes of
Your Son & Brother
