John C. Barton to Family, 15 April 1863
Charleston Va
April 15th 1863
Dear Friends
Having a few leisure moments I improve them by addressing you this short note. My health is very good now but has been quite poor.
We will probably remain at Charleston all summer.
I have not heard from Bainbridge for a long time
Enclosed are the photographs of Col R. B. Hays & Wm C. Lyon which have been presented to me please keep them nice with my other pictures.
My love to all and pray excuse / my shortness for there is no news to write about.
I shall endeavor to come home this summer but cannot tell whether I will get off or not but I am well and have all the nesesarys of life and plenty of friends. Write often
Your Boy & Brother
