Dear Friends at Home
It has been a long time since I received any word from you and have been waiting for an answer to my last but I can wait no longer. My health is first rate and I am getting as fat as a Christmas Turkey and I enjoy soldiering better than ever. We will probably winter here or in the vicinity of Charleston. Our duty is quite light only coming on guard once a week the rest of the time we do just / as we please. There is at present five thousand cavelry stationed here they have just arrived and will remain all winter We have done no fighting since we were after Old Morgan and do not expect to do any before next spring.

I am very happy to inform you that I shall eat dinner at home next Christmas if nothing happens more than what I know of now

The weather here is quite warm and we have not commenced building winter quarters yet but expect to soon.

I have not had any word from Bainbridge / for three weeks they were all well when last they wrote

Give my love to all and have Brother write soon.

I shall vote for Val but he will not get 20 votes in the Regt.

Tell Ma that I will surely be home this winter but not to expect me untill she sees me coming.
Jack
