Martha Winslow (maiden name: Hatch) was born around 1840 in New York to Jethro Hatch and Minerva Pierce. Her father was a farmer who owned $5,000 of real estate by 1850. The family lived in New York until around 1847, when they moved to Sugar Grove, Illinois. She married Darwin C. Winslow on October 10, 1859, and they had at least three children: Katherine, born around 1861; Gertrude, born around 1873; and Cassie, born around 1879. They lived in Aurora, Illinois, and her husband worked as a druggist. By 1910, they were living in Gilroy, California, and her husband was working as a fruit farmer. Her husband died in the 1910s, and by 1920, she was living in her daughter Katherine’s household in Gilroy. She died in Los Angeles, California, on March 15, 1921.
