Camp near Harpers Ferry
           
Dear Parents
                 my third letter is just finished and I will pen a few lines to you hoping that you are well I got a letter from Loomis he is well Co D was on picket have just returned I did not go as I was on guard as last night I carried them some grub they gave three cheers for Palmer and three for the grub I saw the Rebel flag also the camps of the rebs the dead on the battle field some of them are not half buried some of their hands stick out of the ground one of my letters is to Cousin Louisa she wrote to Frank a feller in Co D and I sent a few lines in his letter have you heard from Frank he must write to me first as I dont know where to write 
 
how does Father get along
 
aint you lonesome do you miss your boys any I am first we have better food now all the boys are well dont I write to often if I do tell me and I wont write as often the boys are well and send their love how does Father get along I am afraid he will get sick dont worry about me for I will take care of myself cant father get a boy to help him I will send Loomis letter home as I cant carry all the letters I get I have to burn them I am sorry but cant help it I must close
