Sunday we brought up three hundred Nigers for the 4th Tennessee it is quite a sight to see so many all dressed Niger fashion perhaps you know what a fancy a Niger has for talerd clothes and brass rings some of them had their wenches some of them looked as handsome as any white woman some were so black that charcoal would make a white mark how long we shall stop here I cant tell our Col (Ross) has been promoted to Brigadier Genl I had for Thanksgiving some jon cakes and fresh meat so you see that I did not starve you would like to see the acres of cotton fields that we have down this way hoping this will find you as it leaves me in good health I will close
