William H. Swartz to Andrew Swartz, 28 August 1862
Thursday August the 28th 1862
 
Dear Father I take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that we are all well at pressent and hope these few lines may find you the same you wrote me a letter on the 23 and I received it on the 25 and I would have a wrote back right a way but we had to move again and on the 28 I received another from you and I was very glad to hear from you
 
we moved on the 27th we moved about half a mile from where we were we moved to a fort those that were here left a few days ago a yesterday they got into battle and they say they are all cut up the rebbles are within 14 miles of us or at least they had a fight about 14 miles from here we now are at the fort the name of the fort is fort worth 
 
you say in your letter you will come out here if you can get to us you can do it if you come to washington then you can hire some body to bring you here it is about nine or ten miles from washington and there you must take the boat for Alexanderia and then you must inquire for fort worth and there you can find frankenfields company it is not over two miles to Alexanderia from the fort now for what we want
 
I want you to bring me a gum blanket and one shirt and my revolver you must stop in to get our blankets and then you must get me some caterages for the revolver
 
Henry wrote home for his folks to get some things and send them a long with you 
 
See Dory Morris maby he will come a long out with you and if he dont Charley wrote to him to send some with you
 
you say mother is a looking for a letter all the time but I cant write all the time and send letters to you
 
she says she wrote a few lines and sent them to me in the bag with nailor and i did not open it but I did not see it you say i must tell you wen i write them if i know I hant seen him any Sunday since I left home for we have marched every Sunday yet I am in hopes we will stay here a while I got the postage stamps you sent to me and they come very good we are all wel and enjoying health we have got a very nice place here at the fort we have all got boards in our tents and we have very nice I wis you all could see how nice we live here 
 
I must now bring my letter to a close I was very glad to hear from you and hear that you was all well you must all write and tell brother Jo to write to
 
I think there is more little white houses about here than any of you ever seen I seen some of the 104 boys that has been in the hospittle here one staid with me night a fore last his name is Nate Carver from some wher about milton he is in Company A
 
I must now stop good buy all
 
give my best respect to all inquireing friends you must write soon and tell me all that is a going on about the point
