William H. Swartz to Andrew Swartz et al., 13 September 1862
Maryland Sept 13th 1862
Dear Father Mother brother and sisters I again take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines may find you the same I would a have wrote sooner but we have been a traveling ever since last saturday it is just one week to day since we started and the captain says he thinks we have traveled about 150 miles since we started last saturday I and all of the rest of us have stood the marching very well and I think we are able to stand it Father I was sorry to go away and leave you at camp there when you had come so far to see me but I had to go with the rest of them I have not seen nor heard tell of Henry Swartz since we started
we are now a laying upon the ground where the rebbles laid yesterday we are now laying at Frederickes ville and about ten miles from Pennsylvania they left here last night and we have heard fireing all day but we think that it is our fellows a shelling them out of some woods I must you must write soon and tell me all about the drafting and how wilson Closson is a getting along with his company I was a goint to send this letter out to day but now i am to late to send it out to day but it will come to morrow which is sunday I believe tell mother she must not be a woring a bout me for I am very well satisfied I expect I am better satisfied here than I would be if I was at home / we got as much as we want to eat we have not seen our nap sacks sence we left camp and we dont know wether we ever will see them again pap was a fraid he could not get home and I dont know wether he has or not for I have not heard from him or from you since we left camp I must now stop for I have a nother chance to send out my letter again to day
you must write soon and tell me all that is a going on about the point

direct your letters the same as the rest
