Maryland Sep 21th 1862
 
Dear Father and Mother Brothers and Sisters
I take my pensyl in hand once more to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and and hope these few lines will find you the same
 
I have not wrote for a few days for we have been a traveling ever since we left you at camp last wedensday we had a fight and they say that it was as hard a fight as ever was fought and they wasent but 3 killed in our company and they were Jacop Garris William Wissamer and Hulderman and they were several wounded Joseph Hindey and his brother was slitely wounded and several others that I cannot mention their names their is only 6 wounded in our company 
 
the most of our fellows are all right and in good spirrits our Curnell was killed before we had hardly got in the fight H. B. Swartz has not been with us yet nor I hant heard from him you must excuse my dirty paper for I picked it up on the battle field and my pensyl is poor and the writing is poor also but I will try to write whenever I can get a chance for it is a job to send one out you must not look for many letters while we are a traveling I stand the marches very well I have not had soar feet nor hant been sick since I started from home we have been a traveling on maryland hights ever since the fight our captain was slightly wounded I think we have got prety well acquainted with maryland since / we have been a traveling but I think it is a prety hilly part of the cuntry it is up and down hill all the time I hant heard from home since we started from camp which is about to weeks and I hant wrote but one to you
 
you must write as often as you can and not wait for me to write you must direct your letters the same as the rest and they will come all right
 
to day is sunday and we are a laying still I dont think we will march to day
 
I must bring my letter to a close give my best respects to all inquireing friends you must write often   so good buy
