Dear Father I take this opertunity to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same I received your letter that you wrote me monday the 7 I received it on thursday evening and was very glad to hear that you had so many visitors I wrote 2 letters to you a few days ago but you had not got them yet when you wrote yours you said you wrote five since you got home and you say you think strange that I dont get them I get every letter you send me I think I got the dollar you sent me and the paper and invellopes and stamps and have sent them all home again
I received your letter on thursday evening and would of had answered it a friday but I was on guard and it rained all that night but I had my gum blanket and that kept me as dry as if I had been in a house we drawed shelter tents last thursday and 2 bunks in them to gather me and Nailor tents togather we have them fixed up so that they are quite compfortable we have not got our napsacks yet Nailor and morris and williams and walters are all well and Iris Wood among the rest they all send their best respects to you all
Tis mentioned about garris being sick and wanted to now how he was I cant tell you how he is for when we went down to gard the railroad we left him back / and while we were gon they took him to the hospittle and I hant heard from him since and John Smith was taken with him he had the rumantism tell william Garris that I dont know how his brother nor what was was the matter with him and if he comes out to see to him he had better come rite to harpers ferry for we dond lay a grat way from there and the hospittle hant but two miles from us
Henry Swartz hant got to us yet nor we dont know where they are I wrote to you to get me a pair of boots made and told you not to send them till I sent for them but if Doan there send them with him and nailors too for we didend know that he was thare / and you could send them with him if you get this letter before he starts send our boots and things with him
I believe I will stop writing and go and see if I cand find a machoral for my dinner for I see some of the rest have them
I believe this is all I have to say at pressent you must write soon and often direct to the same old place so
