Dear Father Mother brothers and Sisters I now take my pensyl in hand to write you a few lines to let you no that I am well and hope these few lines may find you the same uncle Jo and James arived here last wensday and we were very glad to see him he staid till Saturday and then he started to the battle ground to see about getting garris took up they started away about 10 Oclock and about 3 Oclock in the afternoon our box cum and we opened it and divided the things and all right the things was all right except one can of apple butter that the lid come off and spilt it I gave that apple to steward and he was very much pleased with it I got my tin box and things all right and the quilt also / we got a stove last saturday and got it up in our tent and we can heat it so that we cant stay in we have a fine little house here now and are a living fine that sossage and scrapple is very good and the apple butter would a been good if it hadent all got spilt
 
you wanted to no wether we have much duty to do we hafto be on gard or els we hafto go up on the hill to work at a fort or els be on picket so we have some duty most all the time I cant think of much to write about this time but you must tell grand pap that if me and Henry gets home all right in the spring we want him to give us the paster field to set out a grape orchard in and then we will build our selves a log house and live in it for we think it will pay / and if we dont go at that I want you to try and rent grand paps farm and I think if you hant got any thing to do in the spring I dont think you can do any better than to rent it if you can and if I get home I will try and help you on it if I can you wanted to no wat was the matter with me and nailor their hant any thing the matter with us me and dan and Vol Snider was a bunking to gether before henry came and then henry come and Dan and Snider took their pieces of tent and put up their selves a house and then me and henry went to work to puting up a house for ourselves we are all the same as if we were a bunking together / you must tell granmother and papy and anny that I am very much a blige to them for their presents they sent me and also to you for what you sent and when you come out you must not forget to put in some short cake and some dutch cheese this is about all I have to say at pressent so you must give my best respects to grandpap and grand mother and paty and anny and all the rest of the folks about the point so good buy
