Camp neer Fairfax Station
 
Dear Father Mother Brother and Sisters
I now sit down to take this old rough pensyl in hand to write you a few lines to let you no that I am well and hope these few lines may find you the same
I have received 3 letters from home these 2 or 3 last days and was very glad to hear from home and to hear that you was all well I got a nother likeness taken to day and sent it by male and you will pay for it when it gets there it is the picture of me when we were on the march and would come to a rest we would all sling our napsacks on the ground and then lay down on them to take a rest
 
Pap mother said in her letter that you had not gave out comeing to see / us yet if you heard where we was we are still a laying neer fairfax station and it looks like staying here a while for some of the regiments around here has put up log huts again and our regiment has commenced too me and harry has been at work to day a getting stuff for ourn and will build it to morrow I think
 
now if you want to come I think it will be as good a chance as you will get. there is men a comeing in every day from reading and other places to see their friends and if you get in a notion of comeing you must write as soon as you get this letter and let us no and then you must start as soon as you can for we dont no how soon we may get marching orders and haft to leave / so if you come you must come as soon as you can
 
you said in your letter that mr williams had not heard from tom since you had from me Tom is not very well he has fell all away so that there is nothing but skin and bone left of him
 
henry and dan and all the rest of the boys are all well
 
so I will bring my letter to a close give my love to all inquireing friends so you must write as soon as you get this letter so good buy all
