Dear Father
               I will write a few lines to you and send by Jerry Hubbard I got a letter from Loomis yesterday he is at Williamsport Md on McLellen right wing he is about four miles from here I cant get a pass very well I would like to verry much if you write to him next Sabbath tell him I am well but almost starved we have had nothing but hard crackers for over a week the Col says he will march us home if we dont have better grub all the generals in the army say that we are the best men in the field not one of our Co D men have been put in the guard house yet the army are on the move Look out for sport before long Loomis is not verry well pleased at my enlisting if we dont have better grub before long you may see the 20th /
