Dear Parents
                                                Your welcome letter of June 11th has just been recd and I hasten to answer it my health is pretty good and may my few lines find you both enjoying good health Loomis and Frank have both written also Penfield and Hubbard they were all well the army is retreating back to Fairfax Station and the next battle (probaly) will be at the old Bull run battlefield I hear that the Governor of Penn has called out all that are able to bear arms from the age of 18 to 60 to protect the state I am afraid Frank will be tempted to enlist I hope not for I would let the state of Penn go to grass before I would advise any one to enlist the way the war is carried on the South are gaining / strength evry day the delays that are occasioned by our Generals on purpose but enough of this there is no news now it is verry dry and warm weather look out for your health and I will close from your son George S Palmer in great haste
