Dear Parents
            Your welcome of the 13th is just recd and I hasten to answer it there is a lull after after a storm generaly so it is here for there is no news of any importance and we dont look for Joe Hooker to do much for some time he has done some thing made about twenty thousand cripples or killed them and he will settle down for awhile our army has been repulsed with a heavy loss but I am happy to find that brother Loomis is safe there a great many of the 6th Corps in this hospital and my heart beat quick as each mans name was called off for fear that Loomis would be one of them / out of 140 that came here on friday of last week all but two were brought in on stretchers there is three or four dying daily it seems hard to have them brought here and live a week or two and then die but we do all that we can for the poor fellows and I think they all can say that we have done all that we can do for them Frank wrote to me but I have not time to answer it DeWhity called here to day from New Haven to see us boys rumor has it that we are to be transferd to our own state to help there how true it is I cant tell I had rather stay here for I feel quite at home in ward nine Friday morning six AM want to send this / out this morning my health continues good all but a severe cold but that will wear off the boys are doing in ward nine ward five will probaly lose four men ere this reaches you I have no picture you had better send the one you spoke of to Frank
