Dear Mother
your welcome letter of the 20th was duly recd this sunday morning and I hasten to answer it in a few lines I have not got either yours or Loomis letters that were sent to the regiment yet I have got a letter from Frank a paper also he was better than he had been only think what I have lost by being absent from my regiment the money you sent also the money that Loomis sent and the regiment have just been paid $20 each it makes me feel bad to think how unlucky I am my health is not the verry best I have the fever and ague quite hard they have the small pox in Wards 4 and 10 I have been vaccinated my arm is getting to be quite sore / I hope to be able to again join the 20th at no distant day they are having tough times by what I hear Bradley thanks you and sends his respects I got a pass and went to the Capitol saw a few big men and some small ones I saw Hon N Perry of good old Newark but I must close I have no news as you do not know any of the boys that are here from the 20th suffice it to say that they are getting along as well as we could expect
