Dear Brother
                        I will write a few lines to you hoping you are well all the boys are well we came in from picket yesterday it is a rough life to lead, a soldiers. I got a letter from Loomis he is well he is only 8 miles from me and yet we cannot see each other for they grant no passes now we have had two battles close by us we saw the one in or near Bolivar Heights the boys well it is roll call now I must go out and answer to my name hoping to hear from you I will draw to a close write soon take good care of your health and character and you will confer a favor on your oldest Brother also Loomis says so
