Dear Brother
I recd your verry welcome letter of the 20th was verry glad to hear from you we have fallen back from Atlanta to the banks of the Chattahoochee river the rebs followed us up and give us battle the loss in our Company is Charley Wilcox wounded in the thigh and Henry G Salisbury taken prisoner we have had a rough campaign having been on the move since the 25th April I have not heard from home in some time and it is a good since I have heard from Loomis we have warm days and verry / cool nights I am glad to hear that you are getting along so well with your business I have not a sheet of paper or envelopes and if you had not sent this I could not have answerd your letter for the boys are all out the goverment owes me eight months pay $116 the state of Conn $10 more making the sum of $126 the army is in need of at least two months pay so that we can furnish ourselves with tobaco and stationery the Cromwell boys are well hoping this may find you well I will close hoping to hear from you soon
