Dear Brother
your welcome letter was just handed to me by the Ward clerk I am verry glad to hear that you are well as you say you are my health is quite poor at present I think that our hard usage through our fall and winter campaign has about used me up I cant sleep much nights I have the palpitation of the heart a good deal it came from wearing my body belt too tight it makes me feel so at night that I have to sit up in my bed a good deal of the time there are not many verry bad cases of the in this Ward in Ward 4 and 10 they have the small pox I was vaccinated day before yesterday I have heard that the 20th have been paid off I am verry sorry that I was away for I shall not be able to get my pay till the Reg is paid off next pay day and when that will be I dont know Mother sent me two dollars on to the regiment when I shall get it I dont / know because they dont know where to send the letters (the boys I mean) Loomis has sent some but that was sent to the regiment so Mother writes so you see I have lost my pay by being sick how I wish I could be with them but I hope evry thing will come out right by and by I dont want you to put yourself in any hurry about sending the whole of the ten dollars it will be easier for you to send me three or five dollars than ten and it will do me just about as well I want you should take the postage stamp out of the ten dollars that you have been so kind as to send me I have four now on hand but not a cent of money have I got I dont mean to tell you of it in order to have you think that I want to hurry you any far from it if you do send send a treasury note as no others pass but dont send any more than three or five dollars any how at a time you have probaly heard from home since I have / our regiment is near falmouth I suppose when we shall join them again I cant tell I must draw to a close by bidding you good bye direct as you did before or in this manner George S Palmer Ward No. Nine Campbell Hospital write soon as you get this so that I may get it before I leave this place overlook all mistakes Remember me to Cousin and wife from your Affect Brother

if I had the money and was able I would have my likeness taken and send to you you would not know me / I am so poor but I must close good bye
