Dear Parents
What can it mean why dont I get a letter from home occupies my thoughts continually to be sure we have had but two mails in six weeks but they were verry large and evry one recd letters from home but poor me (individually) I begin to think of sickness at home or some thing that keeps you from writing the rebs have got in our rear and are raising old ned with the rail road but I have not heard whether there was any mail on the trains they have captured or not my health is pretty good / excepting the jonders which I am troubled with but I am able to do duty however we are having delightful weather the boys are all well from Cromwell I believe there is soon to be a move as they are sending the sick and those that are not able to stand a march back to the rear I shall direct this to Cromwell hoping to hear soon I will close Love to all enquiring friends and keep your share

I believe I have for never spoken to you in regard to politics but I hope that Mac will be defeated I prefer old Abe to run the machine for four years longer the prisoners cheer for little Mac and that goes against the grain of any soldier that loves his flag and country our old battle flag is all tatterd and torn but we worship it and look forward for old time to safely bring it back to its old state (the land of steady habits) /
