Dear Parents
Your welcome letter of the was recd this morning and I hasten to answer it we have been without any mail for a few days on account of the bridge giving away between here and Baltimore we are all excitement here on account of the receipt of the news from Port Hudson Vicksburg Gettysburg Charleston is reported captured also Rosecrans has been victorious but still we must not let them get the advantage of us I hope the worst is over we are paind to hear of the riot in New York but still I trust that it will learn the government for a poor man to to claim that he is as good as a man that can pay his three hundred dollars but they have sent a good many Regiments on to New York from here and I reckon they will show the white feather ere long Frank Sage has gone to the reg I sent Jerrys pistol by him you can tell Hiram of it I think you have a good share of company I am glad that Brother has got along with his work so well probaly he can do it better than if there was two of his boys to help him make some currant wine for a feller so that L and I can have some for Christmas Give my regards to all enquiring friends and I close with love to
