Dear Parents
you may think strange at my writing so soon but as I have a check for ten dollars $10.00 I could not draw it so I let you take it and draw it for me you may send me five dollars of it as soon as you can and as I want the rest of it I can send for it this is our state pay and has nothing to do with the govmt pay when they will pay I dont know not verry soon from present appearances I am greatly in need of some money do send it to me as soon as possible I am about as usual we have awful cold / weather for the last few days making a good making a good many patients for our quinine doctor for that is all the medicine we get for all our complaints which are as numerous as they are amusing to see them telling their complaints have you heard from Conniff and Lyman we are glad to hear of their getting as far as New Britain I suppose you may heard of it before this A lot have deserted from the 20th the past few days but I mean to stick it through come what will Jerry is well the other boys are about as usual we hear of H. S. Geer writing bad letters home I should think he ought to keep his mouth shut for he pretends to us to like it first rate why dont he practice / what he writes you must get the money as soon as possible I will make it payable to father why dont he write to a feller how is the stay to homes in Cromwell has Hubbard got home yet you must overlook my scrawling letter hoping soon to hear from you

PS just before the mail leaves all well send the money as soon as possible a young feller in Co A died last night he was well yesterday morning he came off guard yesterday morn I dated this the 10th it was the 9th it is now the 10th / Mr Griswold is here from the fifth he is one of the new recruits from Cromwell in the fifth
