Dear Parents
Your welcome letter of the 27th of Nov I have just recd bearing the sad news of brother Francis death I hope he has gone to a better world where pain and sorrow cease to trouble him for he has seen considerable suffering during the time he has served his cousin most of his letters spoke of his being unwell I am sorry that I have had to destroy my letters as fast as recd but such is the case we are liable to fall into the hands of the rebs and it would not be pleasant to have them read letters that were not intended for them Savanah is ours again has victory and success been on our / side as the boys say we trust in God and Billy Sherman and everything will go right the city with its large warehouses and public property is ours and as we advance everything must fall before us for our cause it is just and we begin to think we can see the end of the rebellion to day the fleet is expected up ere long we expect to march against the Sodom of the South and Charleston must be ours so sudden was our entrance into the city that the rebels had not time to order the guards from the arsenals and they were relieved by the Yanks the citizens are mostly irish it is a verry large city I will now close with love to all I am in want of a comb / and handkerchief could you send them by your next letter wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years I will close hoping to hear soon
I Am Your Affect Son
