Dear Parents
                        I received your kind letter last evening it found me well and glad to hear from you once more I hope when this reaches you that it will find you well and doing the same Things are very dreary in camp now the weather is very bad now and we have not got our pay yet and no likelihood of getting it you say that you was sorry that I was left alone but I am not I have one friend left yet and that is John Richards he is a near friend to me we will stand together in the hour of peril and trouble Uncle george told me to be upright and honest and I always would find a friend in John and I intend to try to do so uncle george told me that my proceedings were watched by many and also were liked by many / there is a great many sick in our regiment the mumps are going the rounds I have been sick once since I came back but I am all right again frank Brock is unwell he has had the mumps the boys all keep in very good spirits I am not in as good spirits as I was be fore I went home for home I call it it seems to me almost that I have two fathers and mothers for Uncles folks cares for me as well as parrents could when I went there they commenced fixing me up as soon as I went aunt mary made me a new flannel shirt Rosa fixed my clothes over James gave me a new pair of socks and drawers and they fixed me out new and clean They cling to me as if was their own son. Keep good cheer my Dear parrents for I expect to be with you all again

Dearest Brothers & Sisters
                        I have not forgoten you yet although I am far away I am well at present and hope that these few lines may find you the same I am so glad that you are learning so fast I want you to continue and I want you to be good to your parrents for you do not know what parrents are untill you try it a while with out them I thought of them when I was sick Tell them I ask forgivness for all that I mistreated them which I know was a great deal I would be happy to see you all once more which is impossible now for a time I hope not long
