Fort Schuyler July 14th/61
Dr Father & Mother
You have probally heard ere this that we have broke camp and left for Fort Schuyler. I am not very well nor have I been well since I left Newark the dysentery seems to have a great hold upon me but under the care of the doctor I am getting better I wish that you would send some postage stamps as I am all out of them and have no money to get any more with I wish Frank would come up to the Fort some time this week and bring a little (soap) that is money and my pants / also a new pack of cards I cannot get an another furlough untill my three years are out then if I live I shall probally be home with plenty of cash as we receive 100 cash and 360 acres of land at the expiration of our term.
Rev Henry Ward Beecher DD has appointed his brother Thomas as Chaplain of this Reg. he preached today like him pretty well.
I send some letters that I Geo would deliver to Ralph if that note of Mr Vreelands expires before I send money / you probally can extend the time as we will shurely get paid this month $22 one month due and the other beforehand when I will send $20 to you.
Tell Frank he must come up this week it will cost but 25¢ from N.Y. City and I will get him a return ticket for 10¢ perhaps he had better come up on Thursday Friday or Saturday for I will then be at liberty to see him.
Love to all regards to Miss D Camp, Taylor, two Ross and all enquiring friends
and I remain your Aft Son
