I thank you for your kind visit, tho' short it was none the less pleasant. would that we might be permitted to pass another few days together ere long. I hope Dearest Bro. that your journey did not make you sick but that you will be strengthened by the short ride. I did not say one half I wanted to, but Frank I admit one thing ie that I expected to meet a young man / bashful, one who could not talk or do anything fashionable for when I was in Cromwell they told me you was so bashful that they had hardly seen you while you were in that place, but instead I saw a young man, dressed in all the fashionable style fluent language and one well worthy of all that he claims to be. Yes Frank you are a dear good brother, and I am happy to see you as such Do you play billiards? I do. When did you leave Sandusky and how did you enjoy your visit. I hope you are not sorry that you came here. Are you?

Upon getting back / to camp I found a letter from Rev. J [?] Smith, D.D. giving me good advice which would do me no harm to follow. shall answer to day—also a letter from home. they were all well had just received a letter from you. I hope you will write as soon as you receive this recollect once a week. I will try and always write Sunday or Monday, and I know you will write and keep your promise. The boys are all as when you left. I sent one dollar for more photographs yesterday, and will be happy to exchange with cousin Wm

Tom says remember me to Frank also Lovell, which you see I have done.

I am well and have just come off guard.
