Dear Brother
                        Your favor is just at hand enclosing postage stamps, paper & envelopes are not here. I think they have been detained our mail is very irregular.
 
this morn's mail brought letters from home—George, J. C. DeWitt Miss Strickland, Miss Van-Norstrand, & Cousin Rhoda. a rich old mail. Geo was well. Maggie's brother was mortally wounded at the battle of Peachtree Creek. I have succeeded in obtaining Geo's picture enclosed please find one, excuse haste as I have but a few moments / to write. Mother had been very sick but was better when she wrote.
