Ringold Georgia May 5th
 
Dear Parents
                        Your welcome letter of the 25th finds me at this place rather tired after nearly two weeks of marching but still I am well and I believe all the cromwell boys are we got here last night and I was detailed to do picket duty as soon as I arrived in camp we are waiting for the rest of our Corps to come up which will be in a day or two the rebs picket in sight of us nights and we day times so that of course neither side can complain but by the first /

of next week will tell the story I dont pretend to say which side will be victorious only I trust that our side may be successful we camped on the old Chickamauga battle ground and I can not pen the indignation that the soldiers felt at seeing human skulls all of us felt rather bad to see them in such a condition and I hope the rebs will get their just reward and hoping that you not worry about me I will draw to a close with kind regards to enquiring friends
