Head Quarters Savanah Jan 27th
Dear Parents
I have not heard from you in a great while we are still in Savanah but expect to march to day we have been under marching orders for the last week but the heavy rains of the past two weeks have been quite disastrous to our army the 15th Corps lost a great deal of stuff the 3rd division is at Hardeeville some 30 miles from here I presume that I have some letters at the regiment but they are so far from here that we have no way of getting to them I am in one of the finest houses in the city it is owned by a Mr Washington [faded, paper fold] to pack up so I will close
Jan 27th we came ten miles and camped for the night
" 28th moved at day light marched 14 miles through swamps had a tough time of it
29 marched at 7 AM passed through springfield and came into camp at 3 PM having marched 10 miles
