Dear Parents
I recd your letter this morning and hasten to answer it hoping it will find you as it leaves me in good health you will perceive that C T Penfield has used this before me he is in fairfax hospital Alexandria also Horace Robinson of my Company I shall try to get a pass for 48 hours to go to see him I suppose the 20th are at culpeper or at cedar mountain we were startled by heavy firing or a salute this morning on account of a reported victory of Rosecrans but the loss is large on both sides the black Republickons are transfering all the Pen soldiers in the hospitals to vote for Curtin 200 leave Campbell hospital between this and the first of the month I am glad to see them go home but I hardly think the other side / ever were mean enough to resort to such means to elect a candidate of their own I think after this war is over we shall have things somewhat different the idea of having a negro patrol at the Capitol and white men at the front wont pay in this country I think Copperheads and Abolitionists will not find much favor when the soldiers come home I trust this war will close this winter when soldiers can go bathing together in the same stream and have been fighting against each other for two years we might settle it some way or other there is no news hoping to hear from you soon I will close wishing to be rememberd to all
From your affectionate Son
