Dear Parents
                        You will perceive that we have left the train as guards we left the train yesterday morning and for the present are on duty at this place We are passed the Altoona range of mountains since our campaign commenced we have drove Johnson from Bussards Roost Resaca Kingston Dalton Cassville Altoona and Dallas all of which they have tried to hold but it is of no use for Hooker is Old Ned on a flank move they fear him as bad as we did old Stonewall Jackson we are 103 miles from Chattanooga and 35 from Atlanta by rail we shall not probaly / stay here long as they expected a big battle to day but since nine oclock this AM it has been pretty quiet you have got my last letter before this I presume your letter came through in seven days we have had a good deal of rain for the past two weeks but I hope it will clear up the women of this place have not got much sympathy for the Yanks and indeed they pout their face at a fellow can you send me some money postage stamp and envelopes and you will oblige your Soger boy George Palmer the boys from Cromwell are well dont worry about me Hoping to hear soon

Co. D is considerd the best Co in the 20th as we are head quarters guard for Col Ross but it may not be long for I expect we shall be ordered back to the Brigade we are on three quarter rations
