Dear Parents
your welcome letter of the 14 and 15th I have just recd and I hasten to give a speedy answer as I always have done my health is first rate with the exception of a cold which most of the boys are troubled with I recd a letter from Francis he was then at Greenville Pa on his way to Sandusky City, Ohio where he was going to guard prisoners I have not much to write about only we live pretty well that is myself Penfield and Salisbury we captured a beef creature a week ago and day before yesterday we got a fine sheep that with flour to make dumplings goes first rate I am as heavy now as I ever was / in my life we have fine warm weather and it makes it quite pleasant for us. I suppose that the people up north are counting on a speedy termination of the war but I think we are good for our three years the enemy are massing all their forces against us and soon they will either win or lose western Georgia and Tennessee evry man at Stevenson and Bridgeport is compelled to work on the breast works as John Morgan is reported within our lines with ten thousand cavalry hoping this will find you well I will close

From your affect son
