Dear Parents
your welcome letter I have just recd as I returned from the quiet little town of Stevenson Alabama where I have been to buy some provisions for Penfield and myself I got 20 lbs flour at 4 cents a lb and 5 lbs sugar at 15 a lb at the Post Commissaries the citizens were verry glad to see me and I had my breakfast dinner and supper there without its costing me a cent you might think they would poison the food but I am not afraid of it and in the evening I got aboard the train bound for home where I arrived at nine PM this morning we had gridle cakes for breakfast which were quite good we draw verry poor rations and I could not stand it so I borrowed some money of / the boys and went to S— so we have verry fine weather and preparations are going on for a big battle at the front the 66th Ohio Vols have returned after being absent thirty four days and the reinlisted men will soon be back but the rebels see that now is their time and they are harrassing us at evry opportunity they can get. I have heard that the sixth army corps are going to join us I hope they will for we have a verry strong force of rebels in front of us we have had no pay and soon there will be four months pay due us I recd a letter from F he is well I have not recd any from L yet hoping this will find you both in good health I will close with regards to all
