Dear Mother
yours of the 22nd was given to me by the ward clerk yesterday morning and I can say that it was the most welcome of any I am sorry that father is so unwell who does the chores I hope you will take good care of yourself and not get down I am quite sorry to take the last cent from you I would never have given my consent to had you send the last cent you had in the world I am much obliged for what you did send that that you sent on to the regiment I dont know as I can get I hope to some time but after we once leave the Regiment it is hard to get back again verry soon so older soldiers than I am say that was the reason that I did not want to leave the regiment but I could not walk and they did not want me without I could so I came here I am so as to be up can walk around some but I am verry weak yet I dont believe I should have stood it in camp as well as I have here I went into the hospital to enquire of the steward how the orderly was that was the reason of my being in there I had not been in there five minutes when the orderly ceased to breathe a good many in the hospital are getting their discharge the doctors met this week to examine them they say that a person / does not have to work verry hard to get a discharge it is all nonsense for Hubbard to say that he has got a furlough for more than thirty days they dont do business the way that you speak of thirty days is the longest that they give a furlough for if you write to Loomis tell him if ever I get paid off I will remember him the officers in Co D at the present time are first Lieut Cadwell Captain F A Parker has resigned 2nd Lieut Cambell is in the hospital in Georgetown DC Orderly Sergeant H S Geer is dead so you see that we have but one officer in the Company I got this letter verry quick I think dont worry about me but write soon and Remember me to all
