Dear Parents                                      
you can see that we are still in this city our regiment went up to Harpers Ferry [faded] we got aboard the cars with the rest of the regiment at 7 PM Monday about 9 PM orders came for Co D to get out and go into the sheds and we got out the other companies went on the purpose of getting out was to look after straglers belonging to the 20th Ed Black and Halsey Tillaby has gone with the rest of the Reg that is all of our boys that have gone up there yet but we expect to to day there is to be a big battle up near / there the soldiers pour in verry fast from the east and are all sent to Fredric City Md. I see one of the 1st LI he is in Co E says Loomis was not killed or wounded in the last battle at Harpers Ferry the 1.L.I. was in a heavy skirmish with the Rebels there was but two killed in the regiment and but a few wounded so he says why dont you write if you want me to write you might write to me I have written a dozen or more to you and sent papers and you have written but one I hope you will write have you done any thing with my money yet we expect to leave at 9 AM to join the 20th at Fredric City / it is near the scene of the last great battle how do you get along with the farm and Sage bob Allison A Boardman Sherman Paddock are in one of the Companies that have gone they are Company K I have seen a great many of the paroled prisoners from Harpers ferry they are verry poor looking set of men if we want to succeed we must have better food and clothes A lot of secesh prisoners came in from Warrenton yesterday they were sent to the Old Capitol Prison there is no news at present worth speaking there may be more in my next I will now close from your son George
