Know all men by these Presents
That I John W Clement late of Exeter in the County of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire, now a Private in Company B. third Regiment N.H. Volunteers, do hereby constitute and appoint John Clement of Exeter my true and lawful Attorney, for me in my name, to receive from the Select-men of the Town of Exeter, or any person authorized to pay the same, whatever bounty I may be entitled to by reason of being a Volunteer as aforesaid.
Witness my hand and Seal this seventeenth day of October A.D. 1862
John W. Clement
in presence of
Edward F. Carver
Daniel W Elliot /
Hilton Head Oct. 17. 1862
J W Clark has sent us a form of a Power of Attorney for us to collect the bounty voted us by the last Town Meeting and he offers to collect it for $2.00 a head. I think if he can collect it for $2.00 you can; if you have to employ a lawyer to collect it, I would rather have Judge Stickney, or any one but Clark.
If Vanny can wear any of my clothes let him do so, as they are liable to get moth-eaten before I get home, if I dont come before spring. Let him wear my fur cap at any rate.
All well, J. W. Clement
P.S.
If the bounty cannot be collected now, perhaps it can after the Town Meeting in March, in which case it would be well enough to let it be till them.

Saturday Oct. 18—
We have just been paid off
The Allotment takes effect this time so you will draw $20.00 for me at the bank. I don't know when, but suppose as soon as they get ready; I suppose they will pay you as soon as they do any one that has friends in this Regiment
